Come to a special solar eclipse 2017 viewing at the MIT Wallace Astrophysical Observatory on August 21, 2017. The event is joint event between MIT Haystack Observatory (radio) and MIT Wallace Observatory (optical).
Gate will open at 1:00pm, eclipse begins at 1:27PM. Providing that the sky is clear, we will see the Moon pass in front of the Sun and block up to 63% of the Sun at 2:45PM. To view this event we will be using special solar filters on our optical telescopes at Wallace, as well as solar glasses handed out to attendees. MIT Haystack Observatory will simultaneously be running a radio telescope experiment during the eclipse. We will also have a projector setup inside of video from our telescope, information on the radio experiment as well as from the totality as seen from other parts of the U.S.
Light refreshments will be provided, courtesy of MIT Haystack Observatory. We will also provide special solar viewing glasses to those who register (supplies limited). Children are strongly encouraged to attend!
Note: it is very important you do not look at the Sun directly without special equipment.
Space is limited so you must sign up for tickets using Eventbrite. If you cannot make it, please change your RSVP so others may attend! Also, please carpool if possible. If you have any questions about the event or problems sigining up please email: email@example.com
Event is weather dependent so we will inform those on the list if there are any changes. We will make a final weather prediction 24-48 hrs prior to event. If rain or heavy clouds are certain we will modify the event and notify you via your registration email. And yes, we do have a restroom.
