SPI February Discussion: The US, China, and the Future of Technology

Monday, February 04, 2019 at 6:00pm to 7:30pm

Building 56, 56-162
21 AMES ST, Cambridge, MA 02139

A major component of China’s rapid rise as a global superpower has been the country’s massive investment in science and technology. In fields as diverse as advanced manufacturing,  artificial intelligence, and spaceflight, China is either ahead of the rest of the world or quickly catching up. Recently, the MIT Technology Review and The Economist have dedicated full issues exploring what China’s technological dominance might mean for the future of the world. How does China’s political system impact its development and deployment of technology? How might the US remain competitive? What technical fields might be the most influential on the future world economy? Join the Science Policy Initiative for our monthly meeting at 6 pm on Monday, 2/4 in Room 56-162 as we discuss these and other questions over dinner.
