The Power of Language, Part 2: Mistake-Making & Moving Forward

Tuesday, November 02, 2021 at 12:00pm to 1:00pm

Virtual Event

Language matters, but mistakes happen. Part of effective communication is being open to feedback about how your words impact the people you care about and your community as a whole.

Join Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Justice, and Belonging expert - LEAD's CEO and co-founder Kyrah J. Altman- for an engaging, hands-on, and activity-rich workshop on humility and mistake making.

MIT participants will be empowered to:

  • Practice identifying and correcting errors in written and verbal communication.

  • Learn to acknowledge and apologize for one’s mistakes, biases, and language errors and move forward appropriately without victimizing themselves or others members of the MIT community.

  • Adopt cultural humility and avoid optical allyship, tone-deaf messaging, and centering dominant narratives.

Walk the walk and talk the talk with ICEO & LEAD - Part one of a three part series on inclusive language!

ASL interpretation will be provided.
