Moderator: 

Richard Samuels is Ford International Professor of Political Science and director of the Center for International Studies at MIT. His research interests include Japanese politics, Asian security, grand strategy, and political leadership. Special Duty: A History of the Japanese Intelligence Community is his most recent book.

Speakers:

Susan Hennessey is the executive editor of Lawfare, general counsel of the Lawfare Institute, and a Brookings fellow in national security law. She was an attorney in the Office of General Counsel of the National Security Agency, and is co-author with Benjamin Wittes of Unmaking the Presidency Donald Trump's War on the World's Most Powerful Office.

Neeti Nair is associate professor of history at the University of Virginia. She teaches South Asian history with a special emphasis on colonialism, nationalism, decolonization, and the afterlives of the Partition of the Indian subcontinent. She is a Global Fellow at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars and is author of Changing Homelands: Hindu Politics and the Partition of India.

Steven Levitsky is professor of government at Harvard University.  His research interests include political parties, authoritarianism and democratization, and weak and informal institutions, with a focus on Latin America.  He is co-author with Daniel Ziblatt of How Democracies Die.

Daniel Ziblatt is Eaton Professor of the Science of Government at Harvard University. He specializes in the study of Europe and the history of democracy. His is co-author with Steven Levitsky of How Democracies Die.
