ss Difference: Building Community at MIT lecture series\n\nTo offer a mean
ingful public forum and focal point for the disparate campus initiatives r
elated to MIT’s sense of community\, in 2023 the Institute launched “D
ialogues Across Difference”—a series of guest lectures and campus conv
ersations to encourage community members to speak openly and honestly abou
 t freedom of expression\, race\, meritocracy\, and the intersections and p
otential conflicts among these issues.\n\nDialogues Across Difference focu
ses on modeling disagreement by elevating and encouraging dialogue. The se
ries invites internal and external speakers whose expertise can help culti
vate civil discourse\, critical thinking\, and empathy among members of ou
r community\, and it serves as a platform for public discussions related t
o the MIT Values Statement\; the Strategic Action Plan for Belonging\, Ach
ievement\, and Composition\; the Faculty Statement on Free Expression\; an
d other ongoing campus initiatives or debates.\n\nSponsored by the offices
