In past 20 years, residents painted over 450 murals-- on walls, ceilings, doors, bathrooms, floors, stairwells -- and used the internal architecture of the building to create an immersive experience. Last summer, as the dorm was closed and converted to graduate housing, a group students, alumni, and staff worked to document, preserve, and share these murals beyond the walls of this dorm.
The exhibit includes scaled and full-size prints of murals, a lounge area for students to study & socialize, and an interactive VR experience. We'll also include painted doors from the dorm, historical photos from the MIT archives, and other works of art from former and current residents.
Please help us celebrate these murals and a unique MIT culture.
Funded in part by the Sigma Delta Society, MIT Alumni Association, Senior House Corporation, MIT GSC, MIT MindHeartHand, CAMIT, Dormcon, MIT Furniture Exchange, MIT Undergraduate Association, & Wiesner Student Art Gallery (arts.mit.edu/wiesner-gallery)
Notice: Exhibit may include depictions of nudity and profanity.
