The Amazon rainforest—Earth’s largest—plays a critical role in sustaining global biodiversity, regulating the climate, and supporting millions of lives. Addressing its urgent challenges, from deforestation to sustainable urban development, calls for collaborative, locally rooted solutions. Join us to explore how MIT researchers and Amazonian partners are co-creating knowledge and driving policy innovation for a more sustainable future. This seminar also provides an opportunity for researchers focused on Amazonia—or those interested in the region or related topics—to briefly share their work and connect with MIT’s expanding network in this area.
Featured projects include:

• Intensifying the Bioeconomy in the Amazon – In collaboration with INPA, this initiative develops sustainable products from agricultural and fishery residues to enhance economic opportunity while conserving biodiversity.
• Amazonia Datathon Cooperation – A partnership with Universidade da Amazônia and Samel Hospital, leveraging datathons to focus on regional healthcare, urbanization, and climate challenges.
• Amazonian Urban Futures: Belém do Pará – A multilateral research project with the Federal University of Pará, envisioning sustainable urban pathways for Belém, future host of COP30.
