DESCRIPTION:Erez Lapid (Weizmann Institute of Science and Institute for Adv
anced Study) \n\n"Parabolic induction of representations of the general li
near group overa non-archimedean local field and geometry"Abstract: Determ
ining irreducibility of parabolic induction is important for theanalysis o
f the automorphic discrete spectrum\, as well as in its ownright. I will p
resent some results and conjectures about the case ofthe general linear gr
oup\, which goes back to the seminal work ofJoseph Bernstein and Andrei Ze
levinsky in the 1970s. In particular\,we prove a special case of a (stron
g form of a) conjecture ofGeiss-Leclerc-Schröer. This is joint work with
Alberto Mínguez. I will also discuss an apparently new conjecture about
certainparabolic Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials. We verified this conjectur
enumerically in a small range by computing all Kazhdan-Lusztigpolynomials
for the symmetric group S(12).-------------------------\n\nGeorge Pappas (
Michigan State University)"Good and semi-stable reduction of Shimura varie
ties"Abstract: We will describe a classification of Shimura varieties that
have goodor semi-stable reduction at a prime where the level subgroup isp
arahoric. This is joint work with X. He and M. Rapoport.\n\n \n\n3:00-4:00
