About this Event
A collaboration between the MIT Department of Mechanical Engineering and Career Advising & Professional Development, this employer panel program aims to provide students insight into different career opportunities in mechanical engineering. Participating employer panelists represent organizations who are attending the MIT Fall Career Fair on Sept. 22, and seek to hire students for internships and full-time roles.
Mechanical engineering is one of the broadest engineering disciplines. The application of mechanical engineering principles is often interdisciplinary, and mechanical engineers have an enormous range of career opportunities. Jobs for mechanical engineers exist in many sectors, ranging from aviation, automotive, robotics, electronics, medical devices to manufacturing, among others. The need for mechanical engineers has recently been bolstered by industry trends, such as increasing the domestic production of semiconductor chips, to encouraging the development and use of environmentally friendly technology. Broader trends such as the emergence of data science and machine learning is also resulting in new career opportunities.
Attend this program to hear career advice from panelists, and gain insight in to the work they do, what their organizations do, and how you can position yourself for a successful career. Panelists Include:
• ASML/Cymer – Lory Hammer-Young '09, Director of Global Logistics & Customer Supply Chain (MIT, Mechanical Engineering)
• GECKO Robotics – Mark Cho, Engineering Lead, Mechanical (Carnegie Mellon, Mechanical Engineering)
• MathWorks – Bethany Lowenkamp ’22 (MIT, Mechanical Engineering)
• NASA-JPL - Lauren St. Hilaire '16, (MIT, Mechanical Engineering)
• Moderator – Asst. Prof. Kait Becker, MIT Department of Mechanical Engineering
