Not-So-Heavy Metals

On Sunday April 14, come hear us at the Cambridge Science Festival, at MIT’s Killian Recital Hall. “Not-So-Heavy Metals” features transducers and sheet metals in a display of sonic playfulness, melding sound processing with live instruments. Composers and sound artists David Coll and Patricia Alessandrini will display their technical wizardry, complemented by several short works by MIT Composition Seminar students. And to complete this sonic adventure, we present a brand new work by MIT’s MLK Visiting Scholar Matthew Schumaker, specially commissioned for the 2019 Cambridge Science Festival.

Program

David Coll – *world premiere* for soprano, clarinet, viola, transducers and projectors [New Commission]
Matthew Schumaker – *world premiere* for clarinet and electronics [New Commission]
Patricia Alessandrini – Collaborative work with live instruments, transducers and sheet metal
MIT composition seminar students –new works inspired by this themed event
