We are pleased to invite you to the 2022 Gemenids Meteor Shower Tour at MIT's Wallace Astrophysical Observatory.  The tour will include transportation from MIT campus where you will be picked up at 7PM and arrive at Wallace Observatory (Westford, MA) around 8PM.  The tour will include standing outside at our optical observatory, located on MIT's idylic 1300 acre Millstone Hill property, where we will watch for meteors ("shooting stars").  We will also be taking small groups into our domes to view the planets through eyepieces.

This event is intended for MIT Community members who have registered for a ticket on Eventbrite.  You may not bring someone who is not registered or show up unannounced.

It will be COLD, so please dress accordingly.  We will have hot refreshments inside (tea and hot cocoa etc.).

Rain date and Weather: Staff will be monitoring weather as event approaches.  If weather looks like it will prevent viewing of the sky (rain, clouds, snow), we will move the event to our rain date of 12/13/2022, one day prior at same time. We will notify you of these changes via email or Eventbrite.

Cost: No charge for MIT Community members.  We do accept donations to support our outreach efforts. :)

Additional Info: Please note, this tour is at a remote site off-campus. We do have a bathroom on site.  The site is not entirely accessible - if you require any accommodations, please contact wao@mit.edu ahead of time to discuss your needs.  To access the telescope domes you must be able to climb narrow winding staircases.  To access any telescope, you must be able to climb a step ladder/stairs.  All entrances require one to use a step.  Young children will find it difficult to reach eyepieces - we recommend 8yo and above, but please feel free to inquire further if you have questions.
