Hans Tursack is a designer and artist from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. With the Belluschi Fellowship, Hans will be teaching design studios and an experimental seminar exploring contemporary compositional trends in visual studies developed under the influence of video game environments, physics engines, 3D painting softwares, and contemporary sculpture. Hans’ year-long research and design project will channel form-generation techniques developed in Post-Minimal art during the 1970s and 80s through animation software and digital fabrication techniques. The theoretical-historical research will be paired with an exhibition of models, representational experiments, and 1:1 prototypes to be exhibited in the Keller Gallery during the Spring semester.

Hans received a BFA in studio art from the Cooper Union School of Art, and an M.Arch from the Princeton University School of Architecture where he was the recipient of the Underwood Thesis Prize. He recently received the Willard A. Oberdick teaching/design fellowship from the University of Michigan’s Taubman College of Architecture and a MacDowell Colony Fellowship. Before coming to Michigan, Hans worked in the offices of LEVENBETTS Architects, SAA/Stan Allen Architecture, and Tod Williams Billie Tsien Architects. His writing and scholarly work have appeared in Pidgin Magazine, Thresholds Journal, LogJournal, Dimensions Journal, Archinect, and the Architect’s Newspaper. His visual work has been exhibited in New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles. This fall, Hans will be exhibiting a large-scale outdoor installation with Viola Ago titled Transfers at Art Omi: Architecture in Ghent, NY.
