Building 4, 4-145

This is your chance to hack the library -- help us design new spaces that work for you! The Libraries want to make the new Hayden a welcoming, inclusive place for the MIT community, where physical spaces contribute to your academic success, wellbeing, creativity, and sense of community. Your input is critical to achieving this goal. Join us for an upcoming workshop, led by Kennedy & Violich Architecture, and tell us how library space can best meet your needs. Dinner will be provided.

April 3 (note new date) Workshop: Making Spaces for New Modes of Research
The new Hayden won’t be just any library, it will be a place of many types and scales of spaces that promote individual and collective research and risk-taking. Some of the questions that this raises are:

  • What are some of your favorite places to meet and work with people you know -- or maybe have simply met randomly -- for active discussion or quiet research?
  • How do environmental qualities like sound, light, materials, and human comfort support spaces of research, collaboration, innovation, and social engagement?
  • What kind of spaces encourage free exchange of ideas, diverse voices, the feeling of being safe, and to be and be accepted as your authentic self?
