DESCRIPTION:What did people in the past think the future would look like?\n
\nJoin Florencia Pierri\, associate curator of science and technology at th
e MIT Museum\, to hear about visions of the future from times past. Using e
xamples from the Museum’s collection\, this talk will trace how people from
the 1850s to the 1950s thought we would get around\, talk to one another\,
live\, and eat in the future.\n\nAlong the way\, we’ll look at ideas that
were at times strangely prescient\, sometimes totally off base\, and usuall
y just plain weird\, and examine how they reflected the hopes\, fears\, and
aspirations of the people who created them.\n\nJanuary 24\n3pm - 3:30pm\nT
his program is free with Museum admission. While walk-ins are welcome\, adv
ance registration is recommended to reserve your spot.
