MIT Institute Community and Equity Office together with L.E.A.D invites you to join the following four-part workshop series. You are welcome to attend one or more sessions. 

Session 1: "Radical Curiosity & Engaging in Courageous Conversations"
Date: November 14 from 12-1pm ET

As a participant of this workshop, you will be empowered to:

  • Define “curiosity” and explore its contribution to inclusive debate at MIT.
  • Identify how one’s questions, answers, and conversational norms are shaped by their worldview.
  • Practice sharing one’s deep passion and devotion to a diverse array of ideas, interests, experiences, and viewpoints through courageous conversations.

 

Session 2: "Building Resilience Amidst Conflict/Disagreement"     
Date:
 December 1 from 12-1pm ET

Participants will be empowered to:

  • Explore opportunities to build conflict resilience amidst disagreement and difference.
  • Identify the impact of one’s Conflict Resilience Quotient (CRQ) on their communication style and relationships.
  • Practice responding to conversational triggers with resilience, emotional intelligence, and inclusive best practices.

 

Session 3: "Making Space for Civil Discourse to Promote Learning"
Date: December 5 from 12-1pm ET

Participants will be empowered to:

  • Explore the impacts of civil discourse on one’s learning, sense of belonging, and psychological safety.
  • Discuss differences between in-person and virtual civil discourse, like how one practices active listening or forms their argument. 
  • Practice communicating effectively with those whose opinions differ from their own, using agreed-upon and inclusive “rules of civility.”

 

Session 4: "Addressing Generational & Communication Style Differences"

Date:  December 8 from 12-1pm ET

Participants will be empowered to:

  • Explore how one’s communication styles are influenced by generational, cultural, social, and psychological factors. 
  • Challenge generation-related stereotypes and myths that fuel conflict, minimize connection, and serve as a barrier to learning.
  • Practice civil discourse techniques that leverage and embrace each generations’ intrinsic motivators and values.
