24-db54f36f4ccc\n\nin other words you/ was selected by Timothy Liu for the
2022 Hilary Tham Capital Collection and is published by the Word Works.
 \n\nthematic content: queer poetry\, gay poetry\, poetry \n\n \n\nThis boo
k traffics in the second person. These queer meditations are both directly
addressed to and overheard by a beloved You—Self / Other / Reader conjo
ined in a dance of enjambed vocables\, a syntactic pas de deux of monostic
hs and couplets punctuated by fragmentary prose epistles. We are reminded
of the demands that the libido makes\, the joys of (w)rote habits ruptured
by the new\, all of it backed up by an Eighties soundtrack pulsing hard o
ut of the Castro all the way to the U.K. So fasten your seatbelts. The you
you left with will not be the same you upon return.\n\nTimothy Liu\, auth
or of Vox Angelica\, Say Goodnight\, and Of Thee I Sing https://en.wikipe
 dia.org/wiki/Timothy_Liu\n\n***\n\nThe astounding poems that comprise–vi
vidly inhabit–Kevin McLellan’s In other words you/ waver between bibli
cal lamentations and a contemplative sense of memorialized irony. They are
a series of snap shots–an embodiment of–gay male longing and queer de
sire told through a series of time fractured images\, song fragments\, obj
ects\, and muted emotions: a remembrance of the past\, vividly illuminated
. McLellan vividly conjures those moments of emotional panic and sadness
–“/ your breathing [stanza break] a leak in the silence"–that jolt u
s from consciousness into a dream world of not just regret but a veneratio
n\, a reverence that borders on holiness. The enormous power of these poem
s is embedded in their quietness\, their contemplation\, transfiguration o
f the loss of the everyday.\n\nMichael Bronski\, author of A Queer History
of the United States and Culture Clash: The Making of Gay Sensibility htt
 ps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Bronski\n\n***\n\nVulnerable\, sexy\, h
opeful\, and in every way human\, Kevin McLellan's\, in other words you /
is a wonder. I was brought so deeply into the intimacy the neighborliness
of the worlds McLellen opens to. The bros putting sunscreen on each other.
The robin the size of a pigeon. Bodies morphing into dream bodies on endl
ess screens. In this beautiful book the invitation of the / is also testam
ent to a world where AIDS and so many ruptures have robbed us of generatio
ns: that devastation that yearning for new connection. But how? How do we
keep reaching out\, running through the rain past the neighbors\, asking s
omeone to meet for a cheese and pickle sandwich. I loved these poems and f
elt like crying almost the whole time. Is this elegy? Insofar as it is als
o deep deep celebration. The world goes on somehow. This book is the someh
ow.\n\nGabrielle Calvocoressi\, author of Rocket Fantastic and The Last Ti
 me I Saw Amelia Earhart.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gabrielle_Calvocores
si\n\n \n\nKevin McLellan is also the author of: Hemispheres (in the Poetr
y Center at the University of Arizona and other special collections)\, Orn
itheology (2019 Massachusetts Book Awards recipient)\; [box] (in the Blue
Star Collection at Harvard University and other special collections)\, Tri
butary\, and Round Trip. Kevin makes videos under the name\, Duck Hunting
with the Grammarian. His video Dick won Best Short Form Short at the LGBTQ
+ Los Angeles Film Festival. It also showed in the Flickers’ Rhode Islan
d Film Festival\, the Tag! Queer Film Festival\, the Berlin Short Film Fes
