SUMMARY

National security has been at the forefront of Israeli life for seven decades, with threats ranging from terrorism, to rockets and missiles, and even the existential danger posed by the Iranian nuclear program. Prof. Chuck Freilich, a senior fellow at Harvard's Belfer Center and former deputy Israeli national security advisor, will present an authoritative analysis of the military, diplomatic, demographic, and societal challenges Israel faces today, along with recommendations for US and Israeli policy.

BIO

Prof. Chuck Freilich was deputy national security advisor in Israel. He lives near Tel Aviv and spends the spring semester each year at Harvard's Kennedy School, where he is a senior fellow and teaches Middle Eastern affairs. He also teaches at Tel Aviv University. Chuck is the author of Israeli National Security: A New Strategy for an Era of Change (Oxford University Press, 2018), which is the most comprehensive book to date on Israeli national security affairs and the first ever public proposal for an overall Israeli national security strategy. Chuck was a Senior Analyst in the Ministry of Defense, policy adviser to a cabinet minister, and a delegate at the Israeli Mission to the UN. He was a major in the IDF and served for five years. Chuck earned his PhD from Columbia University. Born in New York, he has lived in Israel since his teens.
