DESCRIPTION:This workshop is open to any MIT grad student and will be held 
 in two parts in Room 37-212:\n\nJanuary 22 – 1:00-4:00 pmJanuary 29 –

 ate students.\n\n \n\nDescription\n\nThe central question is no longer onl
 y “Do we trust AI?” but\, more broadly: “How does AI engineering lea
 dership shape whether others—human or machine—trust us\, our work\, ou
 r organizations\, and our brands?”\n\nThis IAP workshop explores how tru
 st is created\, led\, and engineered in a world shaped by intelligent syst
 ems and saturated with mediated\, deepfake\, and hallucinated content. Stu
 dents will engage in practical exercises and learn from research on trust 
 and AI engineering. Led by David Niño and Brian Subirana\, with a guest a
 ppearance by MIT alumnus Carlos Torres Vila BS ‘88\, SM ‘90\, Chairman
  of BBVA\, a $800B global financial group pioneering a large-scale AI tran
 sformation.\n\nThis workshop is designed to engage graduate students on a 
 topic that will become a new academic class for our program in the fall 20
 26 semester. This class will be led by David\, Brian\, and other distingui
 shed guests from academia and industry. In addition to the IAP session’s
  core learning\, we also hope to gain your feedback\, perspectives\, and i
 nterests on topics at the intersection of leadership\, engineering\, AI\, 
 and trust.\n\n \n\nLeaders\n\nDavid Niño is a Senior Lecturer in MIT’s 
 Daniel J. Riccio Graduate Engineering Leadership Program. He started the p
 rogram with a single class and led its expansion into a portfolio of highl
 y-rated academic offerings and a new graduate certificate in engineering l
 eadership. His contributions were recognized with the School of Engineerin
 g’s Infinite Mile Award\, and in 2022\, the program secured a $10 millio
 n gift of support.\n\nNiño has designed and delivered MIT leadership prog
 rams online to a global audience of more than 1\,000 professionals annuall
 y\, offered in multiple languages. Nationally\, he has been a leading figu
 re in the field\, serving as Chair of the Engineering Leadership Developme
 nt Division of the American Society of Engineering Education.\n\nBefore jo
 ining MIT\, he was a Professor of the Practice at Rice University and an A
 ssistant Professor at the University of Texas at Austin\, where he earned 
 his Ph.D.\, M.A.\, B.B.A.\, and B.A. degrees.\n\nBrian Subirana is Profess
 or of Artificial Intelligence at EADA Business School and a member of the 
 faculty for MIT’s Designing and Building AI Products and Services course
 \, which he conceived and developed. He holds a PhD in Artificial Intellig
 ence from MIT’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory 
 (CSAIL) and an MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management.\n\nHe has serv
 ed on the faculty of the MIT School of Engineering\, MIT Sloan and Harvard
  University. At MIT\, he was also Director of the MIT Auto-ID Lab and the 
 founding Director of the MIT–Accenture Convergence Initiative for Indust
 ry and Technology. Before entering academia\, he worked at the Boston Cons
 ulting Group (BCG)\, and he has since founded three startups.\n\nCarlos To
 rres Vila is the current Chairman of BBVA\, a $800B global financial group
  pioneering a large-scale AI transformation.\n\nCarlos graduated with a B.
 S. in Electrical Engineering and a B.S. in Management from the\nMassachuse
 tts Institute of Technology\, where he later also earned a M.S. at the MIT
  Sloan School of\nManagement. He also graduated in Law from UNED (Spain).\
 n\nHe was a Partner at McKinsey & Company\, where he worked for 12 years. 
 He joined Endesa in 2002\nas Corporate Director of Strategy and member of 
 its Executive Committee\, and became company\nCFO in 2007.\n\nIn September
  2008\, Carlos joined BBVA as Head of Strategy and Corporate Development\,
  and\nmember of the bank’s Management Committee. In March 2014 he was ap
 pointed Head of Digital\nBanking\, until May 2015 when he became Chief Exe
 cutive Officer of the bank.\n\nCarlos was appointed Chair of BBVA and of t
 he BBVA Foundation in December 2018.\n\n \n\nRegister for This Workshop\n\
