About this Event
30 Brimmer St, Boston
Learn how to ring an English-style tower bell! These bells weigh several hundred to several thousand pounds but can be controlled efficiently using the right techniques. This workshop will introduce students to the basics of ringing a tower bell, including how to handle the bell rope and regulate momentum changes of the bell. This is the first step toward change ringing on tower bells, a mathematically rich style of permutation-based music.
Please email atimmel@mit.edu to sign up. Attendance to 3 out of the 3 sessions is preferred, but 2 out of 3 is also acceptable.
There may be bonus sessions in February if learners are interested in continuing. It typically takes ~6 lessons to be able to ring independently, at which point learners would be invited to continue at the bellringers' general practice.
