About this Event
Description
Mission-driven organizations like MIT Lincoln Laboratory succeed when they deliver both breakthrough technical results and move disruptive technologies from concept to mission impact faster. In this keynote, April K. Mills explores how that actually happens.
Drawing on lessons from Admiral Hyman Rickover’s uncompromising standards in the Nuclear Navy and Andy Grove’s high-output discipline at Intel, and her own experience leading large-scale technical transformations, Mills shares the practical principles and mindsets that enable Principal Investigators and leaders to create change instead of waiting for it.
Attendees are encouraged to watch her talk, “Driving Change and Accelerating Results,” as pre-reading. In the session itself, she will briefly connect her ACCELERATE framework — Driving Change, Strategic Design, and Intentional Implementation — to the specific challenges Lincoln Lab faces today. The emphasis will be on actionable ways PIs can shorten the path from promising idea to deployed capability in areas such as advanced sensors, AI, quantum systems, and beyond — all while preserving the rigor, safety, and reliability that define the Laboratory’s work.
This seminar will provide PIs and technical leaders with practical approaches they can use immediately to accelerate mission impact.
Speaker Biography
April K. Mills is a nuclear engineer turned change accelerator who brings rigorous engineering discipline to the challenge of turning breakthrough ideas into real mission impact.
Her approach was forged in two of the world’s most demanding technical environments:
In 2010, John Kotter described her work as operating “on the leading edge” of change leadership. She is the author of Everyone Is a Change Agent and Change Tactics.
Today, as founder and CEO of Engine-for-Change, April equips technical leaders and teams in mission-driven organizations to accelerate disruptive innovation—within the systems and constraints they already have—while preserving safety, reliability, and technical excellence.
