Access to deepfake technology, including tools for creating sophisticated videos that can fake out unsuspecting viewers, is now within reach of anyone with a laptop and some determination.

Join for this three-part mini course on generative AI as computational social scientist and MIT Media Lab PhD candidate Matt Groh introduces you to generative AI tools for producing synthetic media, teaches you how to use and detect them, and hosts a conversation about ethics in the age of synthetic media. The workshops will provide information on large-language models, text-to-image prompts, and face swapping and text-to-speech algorithms.

The final session will include a showcase of each participant's deepfake and a discussion of the ethics and societal implications of synthetic media. No background in coding or special equipment is necessary.

February 13, 20, and 27
