 lk on engineering a mass spectrometry imaging system that challenges the c
 urrent paradigm for tissue characterization.\n\nSteve Hattan\, Ph.D.\, is 
 a principal scientist in Waters Separations R&D Group\n and Joe Michienzi 
 is a principal research engineer at Waters Corporation. The two will give 
 a talk on how mass spectrometry is changing the way we interrogate surface
 s\, providing molecular fingerprints with a level of information that enab
 les artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML).\n\nIn the biol
 ogical space\, this information is transforming diagnostic pathology by re
 cognizing complex patterns in data and providing quantitative rather than 
 qualitative assessments to oncologists.\n\nThis presentation will share an
  overview of the status of several elements that make up an integrated sys
 tem of desorption electrospray ionization combined with mass detection to 
 directly analyze thyroid cell biopsies. There will also be a discussion of
  some of the challenges still faced in bringing this to a level of functio
 nality for the research and long-term clinical market.\n\nAbstract and Bio
