For this year only, in celebration of the 50th anniversary, we are making a quilt as a community project. We warmly invite you to contribute a square of fabric that expresses something about MIT’s diversity and/or about MLK’s legacy!

Process:

• We have fabric you can use! Pick materials up on campus or receive via campus mail.
• All squares must be 10”. Decorate the square to create an image, a pattern, or words. 
• Want to decorate with others or need help with supplies? Join our event on December 11! (See dates below)
• Make sure you leave a half-inch border all the way around the edge! These squares will be sewn together, and we don’t want to lose any of your design. 
• We need your squares by winter break! Submit by Friday, December 22.
• The finished quilt will be displayed in Lobby 10 the week of February 12, 2024, and then sold via silent auction at the MLK Gala on February 17, 2024. 
• Auction proceeds to benefit a charity or other organization, chosen by popular vote from those who contribute squares.

Quilting circle dates:

• Monday, December 11, 3:30-5pm in the Bush Room (10-105). Come with friends or on your own to decorate a square for the community quilt! Fabric, decorating supplies, and refreshments provided.
• Tuesday, January 2, Noon-1:30pm, Rainbow Lounge (blg 50). Joining the squares together. Supplies and instruction provided. 
• Wednesday, January 3, Noon-1:30pm, Rainbow Lounge (blg 50). Joining the squares together. Supplies and instruction provided.  
• Thursday, January 4, Noon-1:30pm, Rainbow Lounge (blg 50). Joining the squares together. Supplies and instruction provided.  
• Thursday, January 4, 5-6pm, Rainbow Lounge (blg 50). Joining the squares together. Supplies and instruction provided.  
• Friday, January 5, Noon-1:30pm, Rainbow Lounge (blg 50). Joining the squares together. Supplies and instruction provided.
