DESCRIPTION:Prof. Naoaki Yabuuchi\n1 Department of Chemistry and Life Scien
ce\, Yokohama National University\n2 Advanced Chemical Energy Research Cen
ter\, Institute of Advanced Sciences\, Yokohama National University\n\nHos
ted by the Electrochemical Energy Laboratory\n\nAbstract: Ni-enriched laye
red materials\, like LiNi0.8Co0.1Mn0.1O2\, are widely used as positive ele
ctrode materials in Li-ion batteries for electric vehicle applications. Ne
vertheless\, there remains an ever-growing demand for technological advanc
ements in this field. In this presentation\, recent research progress from
my group is introduced: 1) A defectengineered Ni-based layered material\,
  Li0.975Ni1.025O2\, as a high-performance\, Co-free positive electrode mat
 erial. (Energy Storage Materials 2024\, 66\, 103200)\; 2) High-energy\, Co
-/Ni-free Mn-based positive electrode materials\, which are targeted for c
osteffective electric vehicle applications. (ACS Energy Lett. 2023\, 8\, 2
 753\; Adv. Energy Mater. 2024\, 14\, 2304074\; ACS Cent. Sci. 2024\, 10\,
 1718)\; 3) A vanadium-based electrode material\, Li8/7Ti2/7V4/7O2\, with a
dimensionally invariable character\, developed for practical all solid-st
ate battery applications under low stack pressure. (Nat. Mater. 2023\, 22\
, 225)\; 4) The development of Na insertion materials composed of Earth-ab
undant elements for Na-ion batteries as a cost-effective and complementary
  system to Li-ion\nbatteries. (Energy Mater. Adv. 2021\, 2021\, 9857563\;
 Chem. Commun. 2025\, 61\, 338\; Adv. Funct. Mater.\, DOI: 10.1002/adfm.202
417830). Based on these results\, our material design strategies and the f
uture development of Li/Na insertion materials for advanced and practical
battery applications are discussed.\n\n\n\nBiography: Biography: Naoaki Ya
buuchi is a professor at Yokohama National University. He completed his Ph
D at Osaka City University in 2006 and his postdoc at MIT\, with research
expertise in the development of new electrode materials and studies on rea
ction mechanisms for high-energy Li/Na batteries. He is a fellow of the Ro
yal Society of Chemistry and an associated editor of Energy Storage Materi
als. He is the recipient of First International Award\, “Science Award E
lectrochemistry” by Volkswagen and BASF\, The 2nd ISSI Young Scientist A
ward\, and ISE Prize for Applied Electrochemistry\, The Periodic Table of
Younger Chemists (Niobium) from The International Union of Pure and Applie
d Chemistry (IUPAC) among other honors.
