Mechanical Engineering Colloquium: Offshore Development and Digital Transformation in Oil & Gas E&P

Friday, September 27, 2019 at 3:00pm to 4:00pm

3-270

The offshore oil & gas E&P at ultra-deep waters is one of the most important activities in the Brazilian economy. The challenge to reach the pre-salt reservoirs is significant and new technologies were developed to enable the production of oil & gas at these ultra-deep waters far from the coastline. As many other industries, the oil & gas industry is also looking into digital transformation processes to achieve higher efficiencies, safety, and economically viability.

The Numerical Offshore Tank (TPN) has been stablished in 2002 and developed several numerical simulations as well as an innovative physical tank to calibrate these numerical models and help in the analysis of Brazilian ocean systems. The numerical simulators were further calibrated by physical tests and real measurements to afford a more realistic “Digital Twin” to increase the efficiency and safety in offshore operations.

This talk will introduce our facilities and projects and showcase a few of our contributions to the state-of-the-art in oil & gas E&P.
