The MIT Writing and Communication Center invites graduate students and postdocs to apply to its new Public Writing Certificate ProgramIntegrating hand-on workshops with individual coaching, this program will equip you with essential skills for communicating your research beyond academia and joining public conversations. Meeting weekly in an interactive, in-person format, you will learn strategies for conveying complex ideas in public-facing genres while developing your voice as writers. Through instruction, collaborative activities, and weekly assignments supported by 1:1 writing coaching, participants will move from initial concepts to polished pieces ready for submission.

 

Led by WCC Lecturer Chris Featherman, PhD, the program spans the following sessions:

 

  • Session 1: Find Your Audience — Thursday, February 19th, 4:00-5:30 p.m.
  • Session 2: Choose Your Tools — Thursday, February 26th, 4:00-5:30 p.m.
  • Session 3: Create Flow — Thursday, March 5th, 4:00-5:30 p.m.
  • Session 4: Explain Like a Pro — Thursday, March 12th, 4:00-5:30 p.m.

 

All participants who successfully complete the program requirements will receive a signed certificate, and three participants' final writing projects will be recognized at an end-of-program celebration.
