Title:  What is a random surface?

Abstract:  This talk will be a somewhat more accessible version of my recent ICM talk about random surfaces (see online video, notes, slides, code, and animations).  I will introduce some especially natural random surfaces and explain how they are defined, what they are used for and how one can start to explore the subject with computer experimentation.
