Higher education professionals frequently seek answers about the experiences of students, faculty, and other administrators in order to create synergy between how to think about these populations and how to best serve them.

Surveying is a popular method to surface information that will play an important role in our decisions and strategy. This workshop will focus on best practices for envisioning, creating, and administering sound surveys, even if you have never developed one before.

By participating in this workshop, you will

  • Discuss and reflect on the MIT (and external) resources that will be helpful in survey construction
  • Developing a solid research question to guide your survey instrument
  • Reflecting on how to limit bias
  • Selecting appropriate and effective questions
  • How to order survey questions

Workshop Facilitators

Austin Ashe, Associate Director, Undergraduate Education (MIT Sloan School of Management)

Ryan Bersani, Director of Engagement Analytics, MIT Alumni Association
