Using Tapered Spiral Welding to Build Wind Turbines

Join us for a guest seminar from Course 2 alum Eric Smith '01, SM ’07, co-founder and CEO of Keystone Tower Systems, on Thursday, October 20. Smith will discuss the development of tapered spiral welding, a new manufacturing process for producing tall towers for large wind turbines in situ for significantly reduced cost.  The process can produce 160m tall towers, which enable turbines to reach higher into stronger, more consistent wind, bringing low-cost wind energy to many new regions.
