Improving climate models while making the most of them

This talk presents technical aspects of my work to improve the representation of unresolved submesoscale fluxes in climate models. In particular, I will “crack open” the submesoscale parameterization and dive deep into the modeling and machine learning methods I have used towards this goal. I will discuss current limitations in the approaches I have used in the past and how I plan to gain new insights by extending my work into novel directions. Furthermore, I will share my vision for how I see emerging open-source computational resources as powerful research and educational tools to advance the climate science field forward.
