For those attending this event in person, please use the street entrance on 50 Vassar Street. This entrance will be staffed and allow access to all event attendees. Emmanuel K Akyeampong is the Ellen Gurney Professor of History and Professor of African and African American Studies at Harvard University and the Oppenheimer Faculty Director of the Harvard University Center for African Studies.
Panelists:
Branko Brkic is Editor-in-Chief of Daily Maverick, a leading South African source of news, opinion and investigations.
Styli Charalambous is Publisher and CEO of Daily Maverick.
Eve Fairbanks is a journalist and the author of the recently released The Inheritors. A New York Times Editor’s Choice, it follows three South Africans over five tumultuous decades to explore what really happens when a country resolves to end white supremacy. Her book will be available for purchase at the event.
Evan Lieberman is the Total Professor of Political Science and Contemporary Africa at MIT. He is the author of the recently released Until We Have Won Our Liberty: South Africa After Apartheid, which examines South Africa a quarter-century after it became a multiracial democracy. His book will be available for purchase at the event.
