The Trans History of Video Games. Presentation and video game showcase by Whit Pow (NYU, Queer and Trans Media Studies) -- Part of the Feminism+ Series, by the Margaret Cheney Room
Friday, December 04, 2020 at 3:00pm to 4:00pm
Virtual EventDid you know that video game history is a trans history? Perhaps not: because trans histories have always been erased out of the official account of the past. But trans coders and video game designers have in fact been at the very front of some of the key early developments of video games as such. Whit Pow, assistant professor of Queer and Trans Media Studies at NYU guides us through an exploration of some of the key early trans figures of video game design and coding. Come and learn about this crucial but less known history, discover some early and contemporary trans games, and learn about the field of queer game studies!
