Thursday, February 02, 2023 at 1:00pm to 4:00pm

9-217

In this workshop, participants will explore electronic circuitry, environmental sensor design, and science communication practices to be able to explain their work to the public. The activity has three parts:

  • An introductory lecture discussing the basics of electronic design, infrared sensing, and firmware development, as well as applications of infrared technologies to urban environmental sensing
  • A hands-on electronics activity working in groups to assemble a thermal selfie station
  • An interactive brainstorming workshop on:
    • How to engage an audience
    • How projects like the thermal selfie fit into the urban heat work
    • Novel methods to use thermal imaging to study cities

No prior experience is required - all are welcome!
