Traditional Dance Music of Ireland

Thursday, January 19, 2023 at 3:00pm to 4:30pm

Main Campus, 4-159 77 Massachusetts Avenue, Cambridge 02139

Boston is famous for being one of the great centers of Irish traditional music outside Ireland, and live musicians can often be heard playing the dance tunes in local pubs. These are simple melodies that come alive through ornamentation, variation, and unique phrasing. This class is an introduction to the different tune forms (reels, jigs, etc.), traditional instruments, source materials, and local opportunities for playing and dancing. Participants encouraged to bring instruments so we can learn a tune together!
