About this Event
More acutely than many other emerging technologies, blockchain involves stark trade-offs. To utilize its transparency and efficiency for smart contracts, legal paperwork, permanent digital record-keeping, and more, one must contend with the fact that blockchain performs poorly compared to traditional databases in several ways: It is inefficient, it struggles to handle large amounts of data, it lacks privacy, and it can be difficult to use. But accessing the technology’s benefits requires organizations to accept these limitations, many of which are built into the way blockchain works. MIT Horizon writers Abby Smith and Ben Tolkin will join us to demystify blockchain and explain the complex relationships between its benefits and limitations.
