MIT offers an abundance of data resources for sustainability learning, research, and action — from building-level energy use to global climate indicators. Join the MIT Office of Sustainability and MIT Libraries for an introduction to the tools, data, and expertise available to the MIT community. 
 

This lunchtime webinar will feature Yu Cheng (Sustainability Data Scientist), Alejandro Paz (Librarian for Energy and Environment), and Erin Shives (GIS & Statistics Librarian), who will share how to access and work with sustainability data at multiple scales, from the MIT campus to the city, regional and global contexts.
 

Participants will:

• Learn what the MIT Sustainability DataPool is, what kinds of data it includes (energy, greenhouse gas emissions, waste, travel, etc.), and how to access.
• Understand who manages MIT’s sustainability data and how to connect with Yu Cheng for support in using it for projects, coursework, or research.
• Explore tools and services from the MIT Libraries to locate related datasets beyond MIT,  such as city infrastructure, regional energy systems, or national climate data.
• See how these resources connect across the MIT Office of Sustainability “Scales of Impact” framework, linking campus, city, and global data to inform research and solutions.
• Tell us what you’re working on and what kinds of sustainability data you need. We’d love to hear your ideas, challenges, and questions about finding, cleaning, and analyzing data for your projects.
   

This session is open to anyone with an MIT login, and especially students, staff, and instructors interested in incorporating sustainability and climate data into their work.
