Housed within the MIT Nautical Association Sailing Program, the Bluewater Sailing group primarily organizes local and coastal cruising and racing on the MIT owned classic yacht "Mashnee", a 1902 Herreshoff designed and built Buzzards Bay 30. Mashnee primarily sails out of Boston harbor but does longer coastal cruising trips around the New England coastal areas. One of the Bluewater traditions is to offer an IAP class to teach various coastal sailing and racing skills focused on safe sailing.
